This season, I have had the opportunity to shoot with my friend Carisa of Carisa Keeling Photography several times.

Here are some highlights from Brian and Abby’s wedding in Ames, Iowa.

I was recently honored to photograph a wedding at the Sioux City Orpheum Theater. Here are a few images that show how the theater is configured for a wedding and reception.

The main foyer was setup with two aisles of chairs. The ceremony was performed on the platform at the top of the first set of stairs. During the dinner, the chairs were put away and high-top tables were brought out for the reception, which was held in the same area.

Dinner was served in the theater, on the main stage. Here you can see head table on a raised platform, and the guest tables arranged across the entire stage.

In front of the theater, the marquee features the newly married couple.

Unstoppable | Nebraska Wedding Photographer Mitch Miller

Last year, I had a wedding photography inquiry from a bride who’s primary concern was that I’d be there. She went on to explain that a friend of hers had recently gotten married, and the wedding photographer didn’t show up.

This last weekend, the wedding I was shooting was a four hour drive away from Omaha. The area we were headed to has had over 10″ of rain in the last two weeks; it’s completely saturated and the Elkhorn river is overflowing it banks. We saw lots of flood damage and were detoured once on the way up.

It wasn’t until we got nearly there, that we were presented with our biggest challenge: nearly four inches of water running over the road we were on.

Fortunately, Nebraska Department of Roads had workers on site verifying that it was still safe for us to cross. Flagmen limited the traffic to one lane, and one direction at a time. After a few minutes wait, it was our turn, along with the twenty, or so, vehicles that had stacked up.

Here we are pushing on through. After all, there’s a wedding to get to!

As it turns out, Nebraska Department of Roads closed this passage about 30 minutes after we crossed, as the road began washing away and we had to detour for the trip home.

Gnome Home | Ames, Iowa Wedding Photography

Last weekend’s wedding was at Reiman Gardens on the Iowa State University campus, in Ames, Iowa.

Every year, Reiman Gardens selects a theme and decorates the gardens accordingly. This year, the theme is gnomes. It was really quite fun grabbing quick pictures of each of these little guys … and one larger-than-life one. Enjoy.

Abby & Brian Engagement

Recently had a fun time with Abby and Brian, shooting their engagement photos in Fremont, Nebraska.

Abby wanted engagement photos while we still had snow on the ground.

While we were shooting, a sweet lady came out from the museum and offered to lend us her bouquet of roses for a quick picture.

Before leaving, Abby asked if we could take a couple more incorporating the streetlight into the scene.

I had a lot of fun shooting with Brian and Abby, and am looking forward to their wedding later this summer.

Jay and Katie Wedding in Ames | Iowa Wedding Photographer

My good friend and colleague Carisa, owner of Carisa Keeling Photography, recently invited me to be a second photographer at Jay and Katie’s wedding. Jay and Katie were married at St. Thomas Aquinas church and their reception was at Hickory’s Hilltop Center in Ames, IA.
