Shaun (unlicensed, son of Mitch KC0MXV) applies solder flux to the circuit board. Shaun (unlicensed, son of Mitch KC0MXV) retrieves on of the 0604 size surface mount resistors using fine tipped pliers, to be placed on the circuit board. Close-up version of last picture shows size of the resistors being worked with. They are about 1mm x 1.5mm. Darrell (K0AWB) and daughter Amanda reviewing kit instructions. Ray (N5SEZ), Brian (KM0Y), Steve (WB0QT) and Jim (KG0RD) discuss the solder paste & heat gun method of building with surface mount components. Ray (N5SEZ) and Jim (KG0RD) use a coffee-cup warmer to preheat the board, components and solder paste prior to heating with a heat gun. Jim (K0EMC) and Jim (KC0SHZ) use a "solder sucker" to remove solder for component removal. Kristin (KC0NQJ) and Amanda working on building their kits. SMT components can be very small. Joe (K0NEB) uses magnifying glass during soldering to ensure a qualify solder joint. Ray (N5SEZ) watches as Arnie (KA0NCR) tries his hand at using solder paste for his first time. Close up of Arnie (KA0NCR) applying solder paste to circuit board, trying to keep a steady hand. Arnie (KA0NCR) learning to squirt solder.
